Where in this clip does it say that the customer was rude? Perhaps you just made a typo.

I misread the second paragraph.

On the other hand, I notice that this story is based on the customer's input. Two sides to every story, and I probably assumed that the customer did something to give the server a reason.

How do we know what the customer did or didn't do? Just curious.

Well, we can assume the customer did not lay a hand on the employee or there would be two women in jail in this case.

Then we can go on to infer that the lady that did the whapping is probably not wound too tight because...well...basically, because of the whapping that ensued. It's not really...normal, yanno? This leads me to ponder this question; if she didn't have control over what she did, did she have control over what she said? Those two things often go hand in hand.

Another reason I think the customer seems reasonable is because she asked to speak (or at least asked for the name of, don't remember) to the manager. It's what reasonable people do when they're so offended by something an employee does that they can't just let it go. Of course there are people who are always running to the manager, but judging by the whapper's reaction, I'd say the whappee was most probably in the right. (preponderence of the evidence and all that jazz...) :D

Oh please Robin, please...go get the whapper's side of the story and write it. I'm sure after some heavy editing, we'll get something at least...entertaining out of it!

I'll buy ya a Comfy Cow sundae...

It would probably be a better story if I could just make it up.

I'd wager the employee was at her wit's end just from working on a small confined space like a Rally's and they probably were very busy which just made her lash out and this customer just happened to be there at that moment. Not that it makes hitting the woman right.

Maybe the customer insisted on her Coke with no ice?

I'm sure there's a lot more to this tale. Perhaps the whapper was a jaded ex spouse that the whap reciever is now dating. I've seen some women get pretty savage when they see "the other woman".
It really could be anything. I know that I've dealt with more than my fair share of a--holes that I would have loved to been able to whap with an ice scoop during my time in foodservice. :
