Okay, who are the local meat/producer leaders now?

I'm trying to make a list of the restaurants that are particularly focusing on local ingredients, meats, poultry, produce these days.

A few are obvious: Harvest for everything, Mozz for the milk used in its cheeses, Bluegrass Burgers for the local grass-fed beef in its burgers. But I know there are lots more, ranging from token appearances to other places with a really serious commitment to farm-to-table fare.

Help me out here. Can we come up with a comprehensive list?

Mayan Cafe

I will put our name on the table. From day one we have had a local ingredient program in place. 8 years and counting. We were the third restaurant in town to serve KY Bison meat and we also source local produce when we can. Not this year, due to weather and family issues, but in years past we have had a garden for the restaurant.

Nice topic. I am the chef at the Anchorage Cafe and I can say that we are completely committed to buying locally. I know that there are several other places in town buying locally as well. Proof, 610 Magnolia, Blue Dog/Red Hog. I know that there are plenty of others but I don't want to say someone is without knowing for sure. I would assume that Dallas is buying locally at Theatre Square.

The Blue River Cafe (Milltown, IN) uses local, Southern Indiana, beef (grass fed, FWIW) in their burgers and is committed to fresh local produce when available.

Lilly's has had a commitment to source locally well before the current trend.

I know Ramsi's Bison is local. And many other products.

Damn, Andy beat me to it- I was going to say Anchorage Cafe.

I know North End uses at least some local meat. Don't know if all of it is not.

We visited Earth Friends Cafe in New Albany for the first time today and although a lot of their menu is vegetarian or vegan (and local), he said their meats come from a farm in Lexington (I think...if I got the recall wrong, sorry, but I know it was local LOL).

I hadn't heard of that one, Kari! Where is it exactly?

On Grant Line, in the shopping center kind of behind Lee's/by El Nopal/across from Aldi...in the building where WAY-FM is, further back away from GL. It was really good. Best latte I've had in a long time, maybe ever. And they have sugar free pumpkin flavor!

Bluegrass Brewing Company's bison and beef burgers are both KY Proud.

Meridian Cafe uses:
Grass fed beef and chicken from Barr Farms
Bacon and sausage from Dreamcatcher Farm.
We use local eggs delivered from Grasshoppers distribution
We source produce from local providers as much as possible
Our breads are also provided by Cake Flour

Awesome! I spent a year working there when it was Jeff's Meridian back in 1998 (just Jeff and I and 9 little tables with a gift shop). He's proud of you, I'm sure. Mr. Brian and Mrs. Jenny were two of the bigger hits on the menu .
