Zi Olive Westport Village

by Eliza W » Tue Aug 09, 2011 9:54 pm

I've been out of the country for a couple of months, but the family stopped by Westport Village for some wonderful watermelon and mint ice cream at Comfy Cow, and we saw Zi Olive. It looks like a small shop specializing in olive oils. It was closed when we were there, but it sounds like a great source.

I had email from the owner just the other day, and it is indeed a specialty store for olives and olive oils. I'm really eager to get out to Westport Village and check it out.

Thank you so much for the website.

There's a store on rue Jacob in Paris (don't remember the name) that has a lot of wonderful oils. The interior didn't look too different from this local place. I'll try it out, maybe give a sampling of oils with some homemade bread and steam vegetables to the kids.

There is a sign in the window of one of the vacant store near where Gemilis wine shop is, forget the name of the shopping center, just past where Dolls (moment of silence) used to be, but sounds like the same concept. "flavored olive oil and vinegars". Interesting trend!

Ya'll just let me know if you see Roland's Red Pepper Spread in any of these places. 8)

I've tried to order from every place on the web. No go.

I've talked to the Roland's people. No go.

I NEED to find this stuff! A very thin Italian lady in New York is counting on me!

Just on a quick web search, I see tons of places to order it from online, so I'm curious why you can't order it online - is it always out of stock or something?

Most places, out of stock, (they take your order but never send it) one place you have to buy like 12 (I may not be remembering all this right, it's been a while) and one other place wanted to charge me something crazy for shipping. I mean outrageous.

I had a late breakfast meeting at Wild Eggs the other day and saw this place so I decided to stop in. One wall is lined with containers full of different olive oils. THese are metal containers with a spout that you fill your bottle from. No pre-filled bottles as far as I could tell. There are paper cups so you can sample everything. 8-10 varieties including a house blend, maybe a greek, several flavored/infused oils including, lemon, garlic, other fruits, and chipotle. The owner, who is very kind and helpful, said the chipotle was his go to marinade for steaks.
There is an island in the middle with 8 or so balsamics. Again, a basic balsamic and then several other varieties. I think I saw a pomegranate. You could also sample each of these. Prices start around $16 for a bottle. It's a nice shop and an interesting concept. The owner said that olive oil shops are only 2nd in growth to frozen yogurt shops in growth and startups over the last couple of years. I remember that there was similar but nicer (and more expensive) olive oil shop at Grand Central in New York. Glad to see something similar here in Louisville. Go check them out. I believe if you register an email address you can get 10% off your first purchase.

Roland Red Pepper Spread Ajvar 12.0 oz
$2.59

A $1.00 charge will be added for shipping so that you can get through the shopping cart process. Your credit card will NOT be charged for the order or for shipping costs until we contact you (usually on the day you order) and get your approval for the exact shipping charge of your order.

We guarantee that you'll always pay the exact price for the actual weight of your product chosen. Although we estimate the weight and therefore the price while you shop, on the day your order is prepared we weigh each item and determine the exact price.

Okay, this goes back to something I said at the beginning: Roland doesn't just sound similar to Bosnian Ajvar, it IS Ajvar. And Lotsa Pasta does sell ajvar, just not Roland. If I were jonesing for Roland, I'd sure give one of the Lotsa Pasta jars a try.

I think that eastern European market in J-town also sells Ajvar, but not sure of the brand.

Thanks everyone! I'll make sure she gets her stuff...one way or another. *lol*

To bring this back to Zi...do they sell olives as well, or just olive oil?

We buy John's olives from Lotsa Pasta, but we're willing to check out other olive edens. :D

Kris your description completely reminded me of NYC.
I had seen a shop like that in Chelsea Market in Manhattan like that too!

No olives at this store. Just oils, vinegars, and a few dried pastas.
