"THE" La Rosita is open downtown!

by Sue H » Tue Aug 09, 2011 12:57 pm

Finally, after years of anticipation, La Rosita is open in Louisville! We went last night and it has the exact menu as in New Albany. I had a quesadilla with apples, pears, shrimp, plantains, cheese and a spicy sauce...it was delicious. My bf had a platter with skirt steak, chorizo, black beans with bacon, guacamole and fajitas. He said it was great and we both had plenty to take home. The downside to the visit was we were the only 2 people there and they don't have a liquor, beer or wine license at this time. I hope this place takes off and doesn't have the curse of the predecessors at that location.

Thanks for letting us know it's open now. That's one way to boost traffic for them.

Cause & effect. Was there any indication when this would be rectified? My stomach does flip-flops at the thought of eatng Mexican food without beer.

They seriously need to walk down the street two blocks and plaster the medical school and hospitals with flyers announcing their presence. Seriously.

I wonder if they deliver? I work at The Brown cancer center, and we are always looking for something new to try. Hardly ever actually get to leave.

I'm probably in the minority here, but better half and I trekked across the river to the New Albany location a while ago (the night that the tornado hit Churchill Downs) and we were pretty much underwhelmed. The dining room was totally lacking in ambiance - sort of like eating dinner in the high school auditorium. The service was not poor, but was not especially attentive. And the food, while "OK," was nothing special - certainly not good enough to entice us to return there or go to the new location instead of our neighborhood El Mundo.

Bingo - never been able to figure out what the fuss was all about. Not bad but nothing special. Louisville really doesn't have any top flight Mexican fare unfortunately.

I'm gonna have to say "give them time". I've only been to the new location in NA once and had a bad service experience, just like it seems everyone else has had. But the the fact remains, for me at least, that they overwhelmed me every time I ate at the original location. To my knowledge, the owners have not changed - so I still have very high hopes for them. I love the cilantro soup and empapalados.

LOL. Me too. Hate to admit it, but not having a liquor license will keep me away until it's approved.. ( I'm such a lush)

Actually the inattentive service has been a consistent complaint about La Rosita even back in the old location. I honestly dont think the food, while decent, merits the high praise in light of all the same issues that come up about this place.

I am the original Mike G, never mind the impostor.

I am kind of a big deal.
