Guess who popped in for dinner?????

by Bill Veneman » Wed Jun 15, 2011 9:50 pm

Had been running around most of today doing errands and checking in with projects etc., and decided that, since Alan was on the line at Gary’s this evening, I would go and have a late bite of dinner before he got off for the evening. It has turned into one my favorite places to dine, and having my roomy in the kitchen is also a plus.

As I was sitting there enjoying my burger and sweet potato fries, in walks Gov. Steve Brasher and he lovely wife Jane, with Jerry Abramson and his wife. I must say, I was rather impressed. Now I must admit, it was a treat to see Jerry and Madeline (we have attended several events together), and additionally got to met the Governor.

Now I do realize that they can go anywhere for a bit of dinner, but I must say that it is very much a compliment for them to come in for dinner there. What a tip of the hat the Chef Harold Baker and staff….Kudos!

Did you take an extra-hot shower with extra soap when you returned home to remove the sleaze?

[I'd say the same thing about the other party's ticket, so this is not meant to start partisan wars.]

Curmudgeons shouldn't know who either of those people are. Next thing I'll hear is about you hanging out with Snooki and the Kardashians.

I think it was all a play on words...see how it rhymes:

sweat potato fries
, and,
got to met the Governor

It never ceases to amaze me how a simple congratulatory post about one of our finer local bistros can turn into a political storm. C'mon people, have some decorum!

I'm going to recognize your response (as it was directed at me) and leave it there.

Congrats to Gary's for hosting two of our state's most important leaders. I'm sure it was an honor to cook for them (as it should be).

My response was not directed to anyone in particular, but to the forum as a whole :)

That's not a political storm. the Bush v Gore 2000 recount was a political storm.

I've got to be honest, though: I'm not sure I'd want my restaurant to be known as the kind of place that gets worked up about minor political celebs (or any other kind of celebs) coming in. I know this isn't so, but it hints that celebs might get special homage that mere mortals can't enjoy. Some steakhouses are like that. Please don't let it happen to Gary's. :)

I am only impressed with celebrity when I hear that they are kind and generous to those around them.
