I Love Sushi And Teriyaki

I spotted this place on my drive home last night. It is the former space of Taste of Jamacia and Diamond Cafe.

Whoa, close to home! Must check it out. That said, though, that place is another that seems to be cursed. Maybe something about its proximity to a check-cashing store/pawn shop? :P

I am a huge fan of this place. I have already been four times... I've actually been meaning to post about it, but am wrapped up in wedding season at the bakery and haven't had time.

The full name of the place is "I Love Sushi & Teriyaki." Very small place, but delicious. Everyone that I've taken has enjoyed it. The chef/owner usually comes out to say hello and answer any questions, as the main server doesn't seem to have the clearest English. Since they are new, when I've gone the sushi chef has always sent over a little extra something as well. And though not listed on the menu, they serve soup and salad to everyone without charging extra. The last time I went the owner made me a dessert with caramelized bananas and green tea ice cream that I quite enjoyed when the owner found out that I have a bakery,

I should warn that they really know how to add the heat. If a sushi roll or dish says that it's spicy, expect it to have a pretty strong kick to it. The Tuna Lover's Roll has serious heat, but they will make it mild upon request. I also recommend the Spicy Tofu appetizer.

The sushi is delicious, but if sushi isn't your favorite, I highly recommend the Kalbi. It is similar to a Korean Bulgogi dish, but with a higher quality of meat. (They also serve Bulgogi. I assume there is a Korean influence somewhere in the kitchen.) Both the chicken and beef teriyaki were perfectly cooked when I tried them as well, without being overly sweet.

I definitely recommend giving it a try! I really want this place to stick around.

Mary and I went by there today and were well pleased. The sushi was very good to excellent - nothing fancy, but *extremely* fresh fish on a Tuesday, and as all of you who've seen my rants about bad sushi fish will know, I'm a harsh judge of that point as being critical to a sushi bar's success.

Very nice and friendly people, albeit quite scattered service - the server's English was essentially non-existent and I suspect her front-of-the-house experience was likewise, but the older of the two guys behind the sushi bar, who may have been the owner (he had a proprietary air) was fluent and hospitable. Great time, not the fanciest place to hang out maybe, but nice to have in the general neighborhood.

Encouraged by all the positive comments, above, we went last night. Couldn't agree more. We only had sushi and all of it was fresh, delicious and very reasonably priced. The people couldn't have been nicer, too. We're already planning our next trip there. Highly recommend.

Practically in my backyard! I cannot wait to try it. I've been past it, but (shame on me) because of the death mark that location has, I have been leery of stopping in. The wife loves sushi, so we will go for sure now!

On the back of so many great recommendations, we went tonight with our friend who really digs sushi.

I am pleased to report that we had an exceptional experience! While we didn't find the spicy items as spicy as others here have indicated, we enjoyed everything we had tremendously.

We started with the Spicy Tofu (as recommended) and loved it. Perfect balance of texture and flavor, great way to start.

We also got the complimentary salads and soups. Very simple, but nice additions to the meal.

We ordered off both menus, the sushi and teriyaki. We ordered the Cowboy Roll and the Tuna Lovers Roll as well as the Chicken and Chicken Teriyaki. All were exceptional, particularly for me the Cowboy Roll and Chicken and Chicken. Both were perfectly executed flavors that really stood out as something special. I'm not much for sushi, either it has to be near perfect or not at all, and I have say the Cowboy roll I would order again without hesitation. The rest of my group also enjoyed the Tuna Lovers Roll, but it was a bit much tuna for me. The Teriyaki was a generous portion and served with very tasty veggies and rice.

Plus, entirely appropo of nothing, we received a BIG desert roll made of mango and strawberries and drizzled with chocolate sauce compliments of the chef. I'm not sure how long they will be able to keep handing out amazing freebies like this, but take advantage of it while you can! Absolutely delicious!

Prices were extremely reasonable and three of us were able to walk out for $39, full and very happy.

Service was as mentioned above, but never unfriendly or rushed. The chef/owner took our order, but the waiter was very attentive to our needs the remainder of the visit.

With this in our backyard, and within walking distance, those nights where we aren't sure what to eat just got a little easier.

Highly recommend. They did a pretty steady business tonight while we were there, both dine-in and take-way, so here is hoping they will stick around!

Ditto this - we had a great experience there last Tuesday. I was thinking about going there tonight ..... PS - Hi Jessica !!

One last comment was the fabulous service - the chef was in the kitchen when we left (I looked around to wave goodbye as all of our interaction with the entire staff was very pleasant without being to hover-y) and as we were getting into the car, he opened the restaurant door and peeked out to give us a thank you wave. Thoroughly charming, considering he had a couple of other diners to dish to. Taking the 30 seconds to walk out and say goodbye will get me to come back and say hello again 8)

My oh my. This is an exceptionally delicious little sushi place. We enjoyed dinner there last evening and we were the only ones in the place. Of course it was well before 7:00 but I digress. I just could not stop ordering and when the food started to arrive it did not stop until that impossible fruit explosion dessert roll that was lovingly placed before us by the chef. Oh my.

If you find yourself on Brownsboro road and you have a hankering for sushi by all means pull into the Rallys, turn around and go to "I Love Sushi and Teriyaki."

Barbara, I agree totally!
I've been 4 times in the last week and a half and each time the place has been pretty much empty... Great people, great service and AWESOME food. I really want this place to make it! What can we do to help?? Offline maybe?? Even though I've never been to one I have always wanted to and I would really like to help this place....
