Do we want a place for food truck schedules/anouncements?

by Bill Veneman » Fri May 20, 2011 10:12 am

Robin, with the popularity and profusion of "Food Trucks" around, would it be a good idea to have a tab for them to post their schedules, menu's, etc?

Just a thought.

Bill, we'd be happy to help, within the technical capabilities of the forum and site software. What are you thinking ... we could certainly set up a "sticky" post and invite all the food truck people to post in it every day.

What do you think of that, gang? I'd like to hear from both consumer and food-truck people. If you want a sticky post for "Where are the Food Trucks today" I can set that up in about two minutes. Something more complicated can be done, but might take longer. :)

Is setting up a Forum too much? Like the Jobs Wanted Forum?

Not too much, I could definitely do it. But would visibility be greater if it was in the main forum? That's my issue. Some of the side forums may be out of sight, out of mind.

Guess that could be a double edged sword, couldn't it.....like I said it was just a thought, and I will yeild to the master.

I'm not tellin', I'm askin'!

I really like this idea, and wish I could get some input.

Bill, would you mind if I change your headling? I think now it's too generic and needs to have something about FOOD TRUCKS added.

Robin-
Hard to believe but some of us, or at least me, have no interest in food trucks. If you decide to go a separate forum route, how about we only see that forum if we are logged in, much like Friends and Fun on the wine site? Less visual clutter and since you asked perhaps some the existing forum get so little traffic they should be candidates for elimination or consolidation.

I vote for a sticky note.

I also vote to remove the "Trying to join the forum? Register with your real name" sticky note.

I'm with Bill on the "no interest" thing...I suggest they stick to Twitter and Facebook and whatever other social media is out there. I appreciate knowing about special food events (i.e. that thing Will's got going at the end of the month, etc) but I don't want to have to wade through a bunch of "Hey Gang, Guess where we are today" posts.

I personally think a separate section like the jobs wanted forum would be better. We are ready to get enough stickies here sometimes which IMO is not ideal. Since this would be ongoing I think a separate section would be more appropriate. If you are looking for their schedule you would deftly nowhere to go look but if you just wanted to browse the open topics it wouldn't be taking up space. Kind of the best of both worlds.

Personally I like the sticky notes idea.
I know it's the height of laziness but I rarely scroll down to the Art, Travel, and Deals Forums- out of sight out of mind. And food trucks are a restaurant (of a sort)

Okay, I'm hearing stuff from all over on this, so it's hard to decide.

The sticky note about how to register isn't for regulars, it's for newbies. It makes a difference, so I don't have to waste time educating people who try to register with anonymous monikers.

The subsidiary forums may get less traffic, but they're useful for the people who use them. I don't plan to make them go away.

I'd really like to hear from some food truck people about this ... their "vote" counts.

Hi everyone, I'm Justyne with MozzaPi, the wood fired oven pizza food truck in Louisville. I saw Robin wanted some opinions from those of us running the food trucks and I personally feel a sticky note would be the best approach as a separate forum might get overlooked:)
