A Poll: What is YOUR favorite Hot Dog ?

by Steve P » Mon May 16, 2011 12:33 pm

Here's a little poll most of us can sink our teeth into...If I've forgotten a major (or minor) player, let me know and I'll try to edit.

I voted for Vienna Beef but they are extremely difficult to get locally (unless you want to buy a whole case). For a readily available choice, I'd go with the Eckrich Premium...a darn fine dog. I USED to be big on Nathans and Hebrew National but for some reason I just don't care much for them anymore...not sure why.

Thank you for including my favorite!

More seriously, though, as an occasional Kentuckian-in-New-York, I've had my taste buds tuned to the NYC style in hot dogs as well as pizza. I'm okay with Nathan's, Hebrew National or Sabrett, but no matter what, it's got to snap when you bite it.

Im a Vienna guy. I used to like Hebrews as well, but I think somethings changed. Restaurant Depot has Vienna "jumbos" in a pack of either fifteen or twenty dogs which is a reasonable amount for home use. I eat them either true Chicago style (run it through the garden, dont forget celery salt) or with kraut and mustard.
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

I think because the locally distributed dogs are skinless!

Fresh market sells a Nathans dog with natural casings. You should give them a try if you have'nt already. There a little more expensive but they have that great "snap"

The Vienna dogs made in Chicago are stuffed into sheep casings....giving them the perfect snap factor.

I'm not into the "Jumbos" but I sure could go for me a few packs of the regular Vienna Beef. Should we see if brutha Thomas can score another case ? Figure maybe you, me Justin and Dan could do the divvy it up thing again.

Need a road trip to Vienna on Elston Avenue ... load up on deformed and experimental hot dogs just like college. Also can get Italian beef there also and side trip to Baltic bakery.

Dearborn Sausage Co is pretty good. They are the suppliers for the infamous Lafayette Coney and American Coney here in the D. However, my favorite place is Hippo's and they do Vienna's.

Russers white hots! Have to import them from Rochester New York but they're certainly different than anything you can get around here!
