Birthday Dinner suggestions?

by Adam Smith » Thu May 12, 2011 8:27 pm

I do this every year at about this time, I need suggestions for my birthday dinners! That's right, I know you're all excited for me, this year I get 2 dinners! One dinner will be semi-formal with family and the other will likely be more about atmosphere/conversation than anything. Dish suggestions are welcome too!

In recent years we've been to Palermo Viejo(twice,) Sake Blue, and Limestone, and last year we had the big dinner at Volare which is gonna be tough to beat, however I have a short list of places I've been wanting to try. There are many more but these come to mind right now...

732, NA Exchange, Hammerheads, Zanzabar

A couple places I've been recently that I'd really like to go to again are Coal's, Habana Blues and Wild Ginger.

Thanks in advance everyone, I always take your suggestions into consideration and have yet to be disappointed!

Those four are all great, Adam. You might put the new Harvest on the list. Corbett's is also mighty fine ...

Gary's on Spring. They have a nice patio now, too, if the weather is right. And the lounge upstairs is a perfect place to digest your meal on leather sofas and ambiance with gracious hosts - haven't been since the patio opened but I believe the lounge opens up to the patio's upper level. I'm not sure you can go wrong with any of those, I'd add Bank Street Brewhouse, Eiderdown, And the Oakroom to the list as well. Hopefully we'll see you at Zanzabar; let me know if you're coming in and I'll see if we can make you something awesome.

The tasting menu at Social is a must. Make sure you request the sweet breads.

I haven't seen a single suggestion in this whole thread that I don't whole-heartedly agree with. What a great restaurant town we have!

So, for one of my b-day dinners I've decided on The Blind Pig, I went a couple times when they opened and loved it but for one reason or another haven't made it back, and none of my friends have ever been so I'm excited to get their opinions.

Quick question though, i only have 6 confirmed guests but 6 others who might come... so my question is how do I go about making the reservation? Should I reserve for the confirmed or possible number of guests, or somewhere in the middle?

Thanks again everyone!

I recommend transparency: Reserve for the possible, but tell the restaurant up front that the number may drop, and that if it does, you'll let them know as early as possible.
