One of our own needs our help - Chef Rick Adams

by Marsha L. » Tue Mar 29, 2011 6:14 pm

I know this is unfortunate, and unexpected, but one of our own needs help immediately.

Rick Adams, formerly chef at L&N Wine Bar and Bistro, has been assaulted within the last week and may have a concussion and/or possibly a closed-head injury. The circumstances don't matter. What matters is...he can't at this point afford another doctor's appointment ($79) or the money to pick up the meds they prescribed him at the U of L Trauma Center. Rick adamantly doesn't want to ask for our help, but I insisted he allow me to post this, with Robin's permission.

I remember how willing Rick was to help (and be on the calendar!) when Linda and Mark B.'s daughter needed help with money for her lung transplant years ago.

What can we do to help? I think a couple hundred dollars would help out immensely. And he's embarrassed, but I'd hope if something like this happened to me, or any of us, we'd all come together.

What's the best way to go about this?

I'd certainly be willing to throw some pesos in the pot, Marsha. I wonder what would be the simplest way to handle this. We can all make pledges by PM to ... you, if you're willing to handle it? Then how to collect? I don't guess everyone is on PayPal? Bottom line, I'm happy to commit the forum structure and a personal pledge, but off the top of my head I'm looking for the quickest and most efficient way to administer.

Yeah, I don't know either. I have a paypal account that I don't use for anything much. Or we could collect it at a local restaurant - any takers?

Gayle, thank you. I think money to get back to the doctor is the main thing right now. I will collect the money from all over if necessary, but I'm kind of hoping someone (restaurateur?) at a central location will step up as the collection center, then I'll see to getting it to Rick.

I don't venture to L'ville all that often, but if there is a place I can mail a donation, I'd be honored to do so.

There's going to be an offline at Wild Ginger tomorrow. That would be a good place to drop off donations that a Forumite could collect.

Leah, what a great idea! I have to go to work at 12:30 or 1 PM, but I think the offline's at noon, and Wild Ginger is only a few blocks away from my apartment...

Everyone here at LHB was very supportive of our family's medical and legal odyssey nearly two years ago. Happy to help another in the biz.

I remember that. So sweet of you to give back anything, even ideas!

Thanks, everyone.

Count us in. Dropping donations off at Wild Ginger tomorrow may be a good idea--at least to meet immediate needs like to get him to the doctor. Then maybe we can come up with a plan for ongoing help.

Thanks, Carol and Bob. Sounds good. I will drop by Wild Ginger around 12:20 tomorrow on my way to work, and then we'll figure it out from there. Make checks out to Richard Adams. Cash is more expedient but checks will be welcome also. Nearest cash machine to Wild Ginger is probably the bank at Deerwood and Bardstown.

I think I can make Wild Ginger tomorrow to drop off some Euros...if for some reason I don't make it, just let me know when we can meet you later in the week. TTYL.

I can't make it to Wild Ginger, but would love to help out. Let me know if PayPal is an option, or where I can send a check.

Thanks!
