What is the name of the new(ish) pizza pub in St. Matthews?

by Chris Scott » Sat Jan 15, 2011 5:46 pm

I believe it's near El Turasco, and I've heard they have pint night once a week. Trying to find them online to no avail, I'd like to send their menu to a non-pizza eating friend to convince them to join us (I'm hoping they have good salads).

Thanks!

It's DiOrio's on Wallace near Lexington... across from the new Simply Thai. http://bit.ly/gOZem4

They are on Facebook, and you can find their menu here:

I had a good dinner there a few weeks ago... My only complaint is the size of the pizza. You are offered 10inch, 20 inch or (i believe) 30 inch pizzas. The 10inch is good for one person, but the 20 inch seems to big for 2 people.

I ended up splitting a delicious order of breadsticks/garlic bread (i forget which now!) and a delightful 10 inch pizza, which was the perfect amount of food.

I will definitley go back, and I'm curious to try their wings.

Gotta say that little Wallace Ave has become a BIG restaurant street!

NamNam, Simply Thai, DiOrios!

The street was jumping on Friday night when I went for the first time at the new Simply thai. I was trying to get a handle on the profile of folks at the new joint. It seems that the crowds of college kids that ascend upon Molly Malone's and the other bars in the area were having dinners together before partying!

I used to see an older crowd enjoying meals at Simply Thai, since I have moved out of St. Matthews I really see a change.

Mojito was the same way last night, packed with Twenty somethings with a one hour twenty minute wait! Nice to see that the places are doing well. Although I was disappointed to have to move on. I was not about to wait that long.

Tried DiOrio's tonight and really-really liked the pizza...MOF, it's probably the best pizza we've had (so far) in Louisville...None of this goofy foo-foo stuff just a really great straight up thin crust pie.

The NamNam sign has been up for a few days-we are thinking same owners of Simply Thai?

DiOrio's is my favorite pizza in Louisville right now.

Big, floppy, NY style. I know and understand the love for Papalino's here, but to me, their crust is a little thicker than how i like my NY style. A few of my slices there have been to thick to even fold, really.

Oh, and DiOrio's does a nice philly as well. They use Whiz, which is a bonus, and the slightly toasted roll holds up well when you order carry out. I love Spinelli's Philly, but if you get it to go, the roll is usually soggy by the time you reach home.

I like 'em both, but just to clarify, Papalino's is a careful replication of the Brooklyn pizza house style, Patsy's and DiFara's and others that pizza geeks regard as temples. The big foldover type is more the style of the NYC street-corner pizza shops where you walk up and get a slice on a paper plate to fold over and take out with you. I'd add Luigi's downtown and Perfetto in Plainview as other good examples of that type. It's okay. But even in New York, people make special trips to Brooklyn for DiFara's.

Or,coming this summer you can get it in Vegas.
(that kinda sucks)
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

Gotta agree that the pizza is quite good- you can also get it by the slice. Speaking of St Matthews (my hood) remember we are also getting COALS soon (coal fired Neopolitan style). Can't wait! Also, we've always enjoyed Asahi. Now with Nam Nam cafe and Simply Thai, I'll never have to drive anywhere. Well, maybe to El Tarasco. It isn't La Rosita, but it's cheap, reliable and there's almost always a coupon somewhere for 15% off. I drove by Nam Nam today....saw the sign, saw some cars, but didn't see anyone working inside.
