The best Gyro

by Benton Thrasher » Sat Jan 15, 2011 4:21 pm

Hi folks, first off I'd like to say sorry I didn't make this years New Years Day brunch, I got held up in New Mexico with family. But alas, this is not my full intent of this thread, I am really in the mood for a great gyro tonight. I was wondering what you folks think is the best place to get a great "simple" gryo. By simple I mean not anything exotic, no bourbon gyro or gyro with cheese or anything. Just a simple, genuinely good lamb, yogurt sauce, flatbread and maybe lettuce gyro sandwich. Thanks for the advice in advance and again sorry for not making it on new years!

Istanbul Palace has a Doner Kabob, which is the Turkish parallel to a gyros. It's extremely good.

Unless it has quietly closed, Chicago Gyros on Lower Brownsboro more or less across from Dirty Kroger is good.

It's All Greek to Me on Frankfort between Heine's and Carmichael's brags that they have the best gyros in the world. It's not. But it is large, and on any given night it can be quite good.

The Grape Leaf on Frankfort at Clifton makes a good gyros.

Just to name a few ...

Robin, you meant to say "Grape Leaf". And yes, Alison is closed for the winter. we drove by her place a couple weeks ago on our way to visit friends in Crandall.

Hey spelling cop, you didn't call Benton out for forgetting the s at the end of gyros.

HI guys, Yes, Annemarie I am closed until the beginning of March or when the weather takes a turn for the better. So to the person who posted first, (sorry didn't take a note of your name) come and try us then. People have said ours are the best around, even better than Chicago. blush blush

I LOVE Al Watan. 3713 Klondike Lane, Louisville - (502) 454-4406 (or thereabouts, they recently moved to a larger location a few doors down). You get a HUGE gyro, fries, and a drink for $6.50, and the food is fantastic!
