Raw Oysters on the Half-Shell, Where? Other than Z's

by Ray Griffith » Fri Dec 03, 2010 11:53 pm

Is there a Louisville restaurant that regularly serves raw oysters that isn't as upscale as Z's?

I had some excellent oysters - numerous varieties - at Mitchell's when it first opened. I can't absolutely testify that this hasn't changed, but I was smitten at the time.

Rumors in Middletown has been serving them for a while, but am not sure of their quality since I don't abide.

The Blind Pig? They were featuring them on Thurs/Fri/Sat if memory serves. They had several different offerings as of late October when I tried one and I haven't heard news of that changing. The website would probably give further detail about it (or Jeremy J. if he reads this).

Ummm.....Hooters ?, obviously not a Louisville restaurant, but they have them there.

Really no worry about dress codes either... :D

We changed plans at the last minute, postponed The Blind Pig until another time and decided to go to Selena's. Anyway, I called ahead to make a reservation and they confirmed that they didn't serve raw oysters. Nevertheless, Selena's was very good and the bread pudding rocked!

Selena's bread pudding is crazy good - probably worthy of a thread of it's own. Too bad they didn't have raw oysters - as a gulf coast type of place I wonder about gulf oysters right now. Does anyone have recent experience? Are gulf oysters ok?

That's funny, at the Blind Pig tonight we had a white chocolate bread pudding dessert special that was pretty incredible. I ate it after my shift, right after I downed a half-dozen of our oysters on the half-shell.

I had the Pig oysters last week - very good.

Jeff Ruby's also has an impressive array of raw oysters (and other raw items at the raw bar).
