My Mother

by Alison Hanover » Mon Nov 22, 2010 6:00 am

Sadly my mother passed away on Saturday night. I am so glad that | managed to get to the UK in time and that she recognized me. My heart goes out to anyone who has a loved one with this insiduous disease. May she now be in a better place. xx

Allison, I also traveled a long trip (not as long as you) to see my mom just before she passed away, and I'll always be grateful I made it there in time for that hug. I'll be thinking of you and your family this week.

I'm sorry for your loss. I'm sure you're not soliciting advice right now, but if you asked me for any, I'd say try to get as much rest as you can in the next week and don't wear yourself out with trying to do everything for everyone in the coming days. I made some mistakes that week that took a long time to recover from, and some relationships got scruffed up that took a bit of time to repair. Don't sweat the small details, and take care of yourself. That's what mom would want!

Condolences, Alison. I'm so glad you were able to make that last trip. Mary and I too were able to make a fairly long trip to see my mother one last time. Parting is never easy, but having the opportunity to say good-bye does help. May she rest in peace.

Alison,

I'm so sorry for your loss. I also lost my mother 10 years ago. The best advice I can give you is to NOT make any big decisions for about a year. Things can wait. Give yourself time to grieve, heal and think. Don't allow yourself to be pushed or hurried by well-meaning people. Just take care of yourself and go at your own pace.

Be nice to yourself. Our best to you and your family.
