a question for Robin

by Fred Kunz » Tue Aug 07, 2007 9:54 am

Jackie R. wrote:After getting clearance from Robin for this post (call it a free help wanted ad, and thank you, cause the CJ is high dollar), I'd like to spread word that we will begin hiring soon for all positions, including a pastry chef to provide for both restaurants. Needless to say, serious inquiries...and if you catch us at a busy time, best to just have your resume on hand and give us time to review it at a later date. Thanks! We're totally excited about this stuff!!!

have you ever considered adding a link for help wanted it would be a big help to the smaller restaurants

Fred, I'll be glad to commit to just about anything I can do to help out local restaurants, and we always welcome "help wanted" or "job wanted" posts in the forum.

What exactly are you thinking about, though? I'm afraid that if we took these posts out of the main forum and put them into a separate place, not so many people would see them ... and of course, the whole point here is exposing this information to a lot more food-industry people than the Gannett Courier-Journal can reach.

Got any specific suggestions? Other restaurant business folks are free to pile on, too. Throw some ideas out there, and if we come up with anything workable, I'll certainly do it.

I think he means something like on the main Forum Index page:

Yeah, I thought maybe that was it. My main concern there is that fewer people check in to the other forums. I wish everybody would look at all the forums. They all have good stuff. But in the real, practical world, the main forum gets more "eyeballs."

On the other hand, a really specific topic like "help/jobs wanted" would possible really focus attention by those who are most interested.

Thoughts, all? As I've said, I'll go along with any reasonable idea, but I think it's good to kick 'em around a little first and grapple with the possibility of unintended consequences.

I'm not too worried about that, Bill. We've got a darn good gang of people here. Bigger concern, it seems to me, is whether creating a "satellite" forum for this purpose will focus attention on it or just put it out of sight. As good as the other forums we have now are, just a glance will show you that most of the action stays in the main forum.

Springhurst good for business

by Tony P. » Tue Aug 07, 2007 12:37 pm

Boombozz has done extremely well in Springhurst. Seviche will be a great addition to the area.

I honestly think it might draw even more visits to the forum. I'd rather have one link to click for help wanted ads than to scroll through this forum and maybe happen upon one.

How about we just *pin* the help wanted thread to the top of the main forum? Then it won't scroll away - it'll always be the first thread, no matter how old the most recent post on it is.

Tony, I just moved off Murphy lane and we order your pizza in all the time. My wife and 4 year old love the portabello. Funny thing, Three of our neighbors had never had your pizza, so we introduced them to it, and now their addicted. They told us it's their new favorite Also, I'm off to Costa Rica and Puerto Rico for some culinary inspiration and new art for Seviche-a latin bistro. So if anyone is interested in a position, please call Seviche-a latin restaurant at 473-8560 or fax a resume to 473-8562. Muchas gracias y buen provecho!

I know the forums have that capability, but I'm not fond of it. It distracts from the fundamental premise that the newest and most active threads bounce to the top on a free-market basis, and people get bored from seeing the same thread at the top and start tuning it out.

That's definitely been my experience, as well (never clicking on pinned threads). Now I'm wondering why I even suggested it. Heh.

Never mind... [/Emily Litella]
