Who makes really good chili?

by Adam Smith » Sat Oct 30, 2010 2:09 am

I need enough for about 20 people tomorrow... I was going to make some but I doubt I'll have time.

A few at random: The Cafe, BBC, and the Chili Pot in Okolona.

The Chili Pot is just down the road from me at my new home, I was thinking about them but I've never eaten there. I guess I can go taste their product and make a decision then. I shouldn't have any trouble getting enough to feed 20-25 people, should I?

Adam, I reviewed the Chili Pot in January, when it was new, and I really liked it.

I'm pretty sure they'd have no trouble giving you chili for 25, but why not give them a call?

Robin, I had planned on calling them but I was just seeing if anyone had experience getting a large order. So is the "Louisville" style chili the best? It looks as if I can order their chili by the half gallon so I was thinking about getting a couple different kinds.

LOL... the fridge ain't too bad for $100 and it beats living out of coolers. I imagine I'll get an actual new one around tax time. Thansk for the chili info too, I'll taste them all before ordering.

If you want to go cheap, Wendy's has a good chili - I believe they dump in all day-old beef (as they don't freeze beef) and the seasonings aren't bad . . . our "go to" meal when on the highway (and not wanting to stop for more than 5 min or so) was a Wendy's baked potato topped with chili.

Otherwise, to me chili is like bbq, pizza, or several other foods: there's a minimal threshhold, above which it depends on what you grew up with. If you grew up in Cincy, you'll search for chili with cinnamon; if Texas, chili without beans, if New Mexico, redolent with the local red chilis, and so forth. All of the places listed are decent!

If you decide to sell the fridge, let me know. We had our eye on it until we found out your folks wanted it. 8)

Will do Suzi.

BTW, got the chili from the Chili Pot and it was some good stuff. They did forget to put the beans in the bag and they charged extra for cheese, but all in all a positive experience. I'll be going back for sure.
