Thanks for the head-up, Steve. I was able to procure the last 15-year at the Barn in Springhurst, and I was able to talk to myself into a 20-year as well. I also grabbed an Old Rip for when I need to feel extra manly

Having heard about Pappy's on this forum before we moved here, I went to the St. Matthews Liquor Barn hoping to grab a bottle. I didn't find it on the shelf, and the woman at the counter said they don't have it and what I heard was just a nasty rumor.

Do any stores besides Liquor Barn carry this stuff, or do you just need to know the secret password?

This place carries it. They are currently sold out, but they take pre-release orders.

8) ...Perhaps the "Pappy" fairy will come to the pot luck.

Truth of the matter is that I just kinda lucked into things this year. The "will call" list at the LB for Pappy is about 200 names long. I just -happened- to get a call at 11 a.m. this morning about a keg I had ordered and innocently thought to ask about the availability. Turns out they had -just- received a shipment. I was down there in my jammies about 15 minutes later (yes, yes I DO stay in my jammies until noon). I was a considerate consumer in that I only relieved them of 4 bottles as opposed to the entire shipment. 8)

Steve, check the Liquor Barn on Fern Valley or Liquor Depot on Dixie Hwy. It seems that $50 bottles of whisky tend to stay on the shelf longer at these stores than they do in the east end.

Last year, I shopped for a bottle of 12 year for about a month. I even asked in a couple small boutique style shops here in town where I was laughed out of the store. They told me that every bottle produced was scooped up and there were waiting lists a mile long. I then went into a shop of Preston in Bullitt County, where I found not 1 but 2 bottles, and at about $12 cheaper than the tags on the other stores empty shelves.

Moral of the story... be creative in your search and poke every mom and pop liquor shop in town. Sometimes, the stores that specialize in plastic travelers of rot gut will surprise you with a hidden gem on the shelf.

Agreed. I found a bottle of 12 y.o VanWinkle (since properly disposed of) a couple of months ago at the little Liquor store next to the Kroger at Chamberlain Lane and La Grange Rd.

Steve A. - May I be so bold as to suggest for our next dinner together we patronize "Bourbons Bistro" where we might sample the wares to our little hearts content. :D
