LCBW Beer Dinner at L&N Wine Bar & Bistro - September 27th

by Scott_Shreffler » Mon Sep 20, 2010 11:30 am

Hey, all. Just wanted to let you all know about a great dinner that will be taking place at L&N Wine Bar and Bistro on Monday September 27th. As part of Louisville Craft Beer Week, Chef Michael Hargrove has created a four-course meal, which we will pair with four beers from four different local and regional breweries. Here are the details:

Country Potato and Garlic Soup
- Feeder farms bacon, crispy potato and red cabbage
Paired w/Schlafly Pilsner

Duck and Squash salad
- smoked duck breast, roasted squash, hazelnut, frisee and white balsamic
Paired w/BBC Nut Brown Ale

Braised Lamb Shank
- root vegetables, polenta and citrus gremolata
Paired w/NABC Black Grass Saison

Chocolate Hazelnut Creme Brulee
- raspberry compote
Paired w/Upland Teddy Bear Kisses Russian Imperial Stout

The dinner is $45/person, not including tax and gratuity. Representatives from each brewery will be present. The pleasure of their company is free of charge. Again, the dinner info is:

LCBW Beer Dinner
L&N Wine Bar & Bistro
Monday September 27th
7:00 p.m.
RSVP to L&N Wine Bar & Bistro
(502) 897-0070
$45/person, not including tax and gratuity

We hope to see lots of you fine folks there. Cheers, all.

I hope I will be forgiven for posting and trying to call attention to the beer dinner we are having this coming Monday. I'm really surprised at the tepid response thus far and am hoping that if reminded, people will see the amazing value we are offering. A four course meal paired with craft beer for only $45? I can only say that we have significantly reduced our margins in hopes of getting strong attendance. If interested, please call for reservations and thanks for taking a look...

Len,

The tepid response might be because you can't swing a dead cat in this town for the next few weeks without hitting some kind of "Craft" beer event. (Not that I'm complaining mind you). Hope tepid turns into a rolling boil for ya before this is all said and done.

This is off-topic, so forgive me, but I would attend quite a few more beer dinners if they offered an alternate vegetarian set of pairings.

Not for me, as I make it a point to never trust a vegetarian, but for my girlfriend, who happens to be one.

I am a huge fan of beer dinners, as they combine two of my favorite things (beer and dinner). She also enjoys craft beer, but often wouldn't be able to eat most of the courses at your typical beer dinner.

While I am not an expert in the art of pairings, I understand the difficulties, and certainly don't expect any restaurateurs to change anything.

Beer dinners are really the only time where her vegetarianism cramps my style. Oh, and we can't go to steakhouses anymore.

I'm looking forward to it, if I can make it.

I'm surprised too. The best beer dinner I've ever taken part in was the one we did in '06(?). That dinner had one beer from each brewery with each course. The food was wonderful and I think it sold out.

(The only low light of the night was that young punk bartender you had then. I think his name was Scott something, anyway, glad to see he's gone. )

We'll all talk it up during the first three events and make your dinner a hit.

Tepid as: Four course meal at L & N with two very special beers, NABC Black Grass Saison (the last for this year) and Upland Teddy Bear Kisses (the first time released in Louisville) and two beers from BBC & Schlafly. $45.00! Unheard of price.

Any decent restaurant WILL create vegetarian courses to pair with the beer or wine that goes with the carnivores' courses. Every place I ever worked certainly did. I feel comfortable saying Michael would do so if you ask in advance (this is the key - don't just walk in and be seated and then say "by the way...")
