Tapas in Chicago

by Jon K » Thu Jul 26, 2007 7:38 pm

Would appreciate suggestions for tapas in Chicago. Open to everything from traditional to wild takes on the concept. Staying near Lincoln Park.

Cafe Baba Reeba!! (You may want to check on the spelling.) Yummy in your tummy. They have delicious sangria too - like 15 varities. I think it's on Halstead if I remember correctly, so it shouldn't be too far.

Tapas Chicago

I second Cafe Ba-Ba Reeba. Cafe Iberico is also good, simple authentic tapas. For more upscale tapas Avec is the place to go. Fernando

Thank you maestro. Kind of hard to question someone who makes the best tapas I've ever tasted.

Tapas Chicago

by Fernando Martinez » Thu Jul 26, 2007 10:52 pm

Jon thank you for such a compliment. I think my food is really simple.

Also check out Sangria is not authentic but they have a big tapas menu from tacos to skewers, etc. Fernando.

tapas in chicago

I envy you going to chicago! Anoosh and I ate at LaCosta, next to navy pier, and have recommended it to several people . All have raved.

Hot Chocolate--1747 n damon ph 773-489-1747 really worth a try for food and amazing deserts.
:D

Nationale 27 is a lot of fun. Adam Seger ( mixologist) is there, and it turns into a dance club after 11 on the weekends.

Have a great time!

You can't go wrote with Cafe Ba-ba-reeba. Yes, it is a Lettuce Entertain You place, but it is pretty good too.

Cafe Iberico is too good. I will be going there in a few weeks. We have been going to Cafe for many years and highly recommend.

Another vote for Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba. My husband and I always try to go when we're in Chicago. If you have a small party, it's a lot of fun to sit at the bar (I think you can also avoid the wait this way, but not 100% sure) Here's the menu: http://tinyurl.com/26c5mn

Volo!

by Nora Boyle » Fri Jul 27, 2007 11:41 pm

Volo is an outstanding small plates restaurant near Lincoln Park. 'Citysearch it to get the street! They have a great wine selection, but it's mid-scale dark cozy atmosphere. My husband worked w/ the chef in New Orleans and San Francisco. He's pretty cool, and still a good friend. Your guests will be impressed I'm sure.

What is a tapas? How do you cook it?

Does it have anything to do with a goat?

How do you get from this traditional tapas to Wild variations on a theme?
Every days a holiday and every meals a feast !

On Halsted

http://cafebabareeba.com/ Is on Halsted St. Take some time to shop while you are on that street. They have some really great stores. We eat at Babareeba every trip to Chicago. It is on the far west edge of the Lincoln Park neighborhood. Also, go a few blocks north to Roscoe Village for breakfast at http://kitschn.com/ It is a fun place with great food.

Roscoe Village is a pretty good place for breakfast. Kitsch'n is one option. Orange (which just opened a branch there) and Victory's Banner (awesome vegetarian place - try the french toast) are other very good options.
