Went to Come Back Inn and will go back

by Elliot Bottomley » Tue Jul 20, 2010 10:06 pm

Went to the Come Back Inn tonight for the first time I'm ashamed to say, but restaurant workers rarely venture. Laura Wallace of City Concierge told me I had to go to research. The menu is Italian and superb. It is tucked away in Germantown on Swan Street. The portions were large, and the food yet simple was delicious. My girlfriend ordered the Linguine with Wild Mushrooms and I ordered the Italian sub. Both were more then we could handle. We both have a healthy helping for tomorrow and will be going back very soon.

The service was great. She had given us plenty of time to order (I mean plenty of time). We were meeting old friends and couldn't shut up long enough to read the menu. If you haven't been or have forgotten about it, get there.

And the serve local brew on draft. I'll shut up now and go lay down. I'm in a food coma.

It's very very good. Not sure how they are affiliated with each other but I like the one in Southern Indiana as well. Always a great meal and more than reasonable prices.

I am the original Mike G, never mind the impostor.

I am kind of a big deal.

I agree. They also make the best Louisville example of a classic Chicago Italian beef(better than Lonnies, and thats saying something)Both locations are nice, but we prefer to sit at the bar at the Swan street location, partly because the owner/barman is from the same part of Chicago as we are and its nice to hear a familiar accent. They also make a really good pizza. One of the places around that makes good pie but you never hear about it. We recently had a spinach ricotta on a very thin crust that was awesome.
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

Thanks Elliot and all!
It sure is nice to wake up to praise for the restaurant - what a way to start the day!.
We will celebrate 15 years in business on November 13th thanks in part to our excellent staff members like Brittany (your server).

Carla, the Jeff. store is a franchise of this one. Mark, Chris, London, and I opened the store in 2001. In 2005 Mark and I sold our shares to Chris and London. The core menu is the same, but the specials, wine lists and beer lists differ based on our preferences.

Thanks again and hope to see everyone soon.
Regards,
Gena Wagner

I think the secret no one talks about at CB is the fantastic house salad! I love the entrees, but the salad always surprises. It's fresh, plentiful and tasty.

I used to get by the Swan Street Location at least once a month when I worked in the area and also enjoyed going over to the Mall for some shopping. It is great food. Home cooking at its best. We are a dying breed, so keep supporting the ones that fall under the "Hip" radar and get ready to leave stuffed and happy. Bill

We ate there last night. Great pizza and Chicago beef sandwich. Caesar salad with fried oyster was too good. Always get a good meal there, with plenty to take home.

This is the first restaurant I dined at in this city! I lived around the corner, and passed by it. Went in, and sat at the bar. I also had bourbon for the first time (moved from San Diego, it wasn't so popular there lol) . Mark graciously gave me a few shots of different bourbon. GREAT place, great owners, great food!

When I worked downtown, I preferred dining at the Come Back in Jeffersonville....more seating room, and actually a shorter drive from my office. Haven't been there in awhile, so I may be due for a "Chicken Alfredo" fix very soon. 8)

Forgot to post but sent my brother and his girlfriend (who is the pickiest eater I know, who always complains about price for quality and quantity) last week. They loved it. Said that they were taken great care of and that the food was outstanding with the prices extremely reasonable. Great job guys.
