Beer flights?

Food and beer flights? We were at flanigans having a wonderful time untilserver disappeared and finished our meal dry:-(. That's one reason why we have given up sitting any where but the bar. We forgot about Brendans. We're heading to nabc today.(at toaston market and we are going to wait this time. My husband has never eaten here. Long wait. We killed some time going to bargain supply! Still waiting! First and only time we will wait:-)

I've had that happen at Flanagan's many times, why I keep going is beyond me!

O'Sheas has beer flights, BJ's in St. Matthews does too. I don't know of many others..oh of course Cumberland Brews.

All the local breweries do flights AKA sample trays.

I've had gallons of BBC beer over the years, so I haven't done that. Maybe that is what I should start doing, then end up with the best in my warthog mug. I'll ask the next time I'm at NABC. Only 6 usually on tap at Tap Room. Don't go to Cumberland - just out of our usual area (Oldham, St. Matt, Frankfort Ave., downtown, NA). Food isn't always as good at Brownings so we don't go there either.
NABC/Grantline is our fav.

Brownings is doing a trio of food, matched w/ 3 of our beers on non game nights. We also have a beer sampler available-- I also thought most all of the other breweries had sampler flights available.

Cumberland brew - eh not so much. Their beer is not very good quality, food is just so-so.

On Thursday night, I got a flight of beer (four 4-oz beers) at Cafe Lou Lou's in the Highlands.

What makes their beer "not very good quality?"

We are retired so we have the opportunity to experiment sometimes with comparable restaurants. For example we once had lunch at Mike Linnings, and later dinner at the Irish Rover, simply to compare their fish sandwiches.

Another "experiment" was the local brew pub comparison. We did not include the New Albanian because its food did not fit the other three's food style - pizza versus pub grub. Absolutely no knock on NABC, great beer, great food, but repeating myself, it just did not fit the comparison experiment those three days.

One day we did lunch at BBC, sharing an appetizer and an entree (it has been awhile, I don't remember exactly what we ate, or which beers I tried). The next night was at Brownings (before a game), where the idea hatched to try Cumberland Brews the following night. At all three, the beers were excellent, especially the cask-conditioned beer on Thursday at at BBC. But in the end, we voted for Cumberland Brews for the best food. Sorry for not a lot of detail on the beers and the food, it was last summer when we did this. If I am wanting some home-town brew, we will pick any one of the four pubs in the Louisville area. Add food to the decision making and we head to Cumberland Brew.

It is of my own opinion that" Low Quality" or even "Poor Quality" is not brewed in our region, beer drinkers should feel blessed that a quality handcrafted beer is within a short drive no matter where you are in Louisville or S. Indiana.( Your opnion of what is best, would and should vary) I have tried these " Low Quality " beers you speak of in my travels. The word extract comes to mind, hard to find a good one, once again in my opinion.

Cumberland has endless wells of quality. And Brownings food is great. And I've always had great service at Flanagan's. And beer flights have been laid out as long as I can remember.

Joining the choir, I love all our local microbreweries and wouldn't even want to TRY to rank them. Cumberland is absolutely a go-to choice for both food and beer.

I'm biased, but agree with Mark. Last week in Boston MA, I drank quite a lot of beer brewed in or near the metro area. Quality overall was good, but no better than from Louisville (and Indiana) breweries. I persist in thinking that we punch above our weight when compared with many other urban areas.
