In Search of the $5 lunch

by Bill Veneman » Tue Jul 13, 2010 12:34 pm

OK, we are foodies and we adore good food. However, there is a period of time in every month that we must be a bit on the frugal side of the wallet. Hence this post.

I have my favorite $5 lunch spot in town (Safair on 4th), and I'm sure there are others worthy of mention.

Now not to be forgotten is one of my other favs, Joe Davola's on Barrett, however it is closer to $6 (no offense to Chris and John, for the money, you can't beat what you get).....

Discuss amonst yourselves.....food for thought!
If life's a Banquet, what's with all the Tofu?

Cheers!

I have plenty of deals under five bucks at my food stand on 6th and Chestnut. Especially on Joe Pesci Fridays which is deals galore. Only if you quote me a line from a Joe Pesci Movie in your best Joe Pesci accent of course.. ;)

You'd have to be able to put something together for $5 at Sante Fe I would think.

Aren't J. Gumbo's dishes mostly $5? Drink is extra, of course. And I hope that even a frugal diner will keep the server in mind, and toss out any connection with percentage. I'd consider two bucks the minimum reasonable tip at a sit-down eatery, even if that is 40 percent of a $5 meal.

You could get the "Banh Mi"sandwich at Pho Binh Minh out on Strawberry Lane(close to the Humane Society).
It's only 3 bucks and quite tasty. I eat lunch there at least twice a week. A big bowl of wonderful Beef Pho is only $6.75. They are also really nice people
