I quit smoking

by Marsha L. » Wed Jun 02, 2010 9:15 pm

Robin, move this if you want to, but I just wanted to brag a little bit. This is day 6 of no smoking cigarettes for me. Cold Turkey, baby!

It's rough. But it's do-able. I told some friends today I slept like a baby last night. "A big, drunk baby." LOL.

Anyway, I'll take all the encouragement I can get. But....I LOVED SMOKING so much...I just hate the after-effects.

Congratulations, keep it up! Other than the health benefits just think about how much $ you're saving!

Go, Adam. And GO, EVERYONE that quits, no matter what method you use or what products you lean on. I was able to sleep on my side last night for the first time in a year...no slobbery lung-noises in my ears. Also, John says I no longer snore.

Six days, that is great!! Congratulations on becoming a non-smoker. I did so sixteen years ago. I would suggest getting nicotine gum, just to have on hand, in case you need to get through a craving.

Pam, I can't chew gum - it sticks to all my ancient old fillings. I think somehow quitting cold turkey makes me feel self-righteous, and maybe somehow that helps me. Thanks for the suggestion; I have access to the gum and could have it instantly, but...I think I'll try without it.

Congratulations!!!

You are over the hardest part. After the first couple of days, without a smoke, you're over the physical addiction. It will get a little easier, day by day. I would NOT recommend using gum, or anything with nicotine now, since it's now out of your system.

I was a pack and a half a day smoker when I quit. The first 2 days where brutal, I was ill. Once the first week went by, each day got a little easier. That was almost 8 years ago.

You can do it!!!

Thanks, everyone. I think credit is due to my long-suffering boyfriend, who weathered the long weekend with me.

At this point, it's down to a super-intense craving, only about every 8 hours, for only about 5 minutes. That's only three times a day for five minutes! I can do it.

Awesome!! Cold turkey is the best way. You have already got over the worst part. The physical demand for nicotine is over, now its the mental part. I quit cold about four years ago and never looked back. One thing I did to help myself was to reward myself at the 3 month,6 month and year mark. Maybe treat yourself to a very nice meal or something when you reach that point. It tough, but your tougher.
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

Yeah!!!! Many many congratulations! I am so thrilled for you and couldn't be more proud!

I quite about 28 years ago. Currently despise the cigarette industry and all they've done to deceive the public regarding their product. The next time to you're tempted to grab a cigarette just remember this is an industry that has targeted our children, women, minorities, and the socially disenfranchised and then lied about the horrible dangers of their product. Slimy bastards.

I'm done and I apologize for my rant. Still VERY proud of you! :D
