Super Casual Dining - BBQ? Pubs? What else?

by Matthew D » Thu May 13, 2010 10:48 pm

So my birthday is on Monday and I'm looking for a pretty-darn casual place to have a birthday dinner with my family. Just in the mood for a casual place. By casual I mean more casual than, say, Lou Lou or Havana Rumba. Maybe "homey" is a better adjective to use than casual.

What's the current state of BBQ in this city? My family tends to do Mark's, but it is just OK to me. FABD has two locations now, I know. And I'm familiar with the place on Old Shep. Other BBQ options?

Also been thinking about some pubs (well mainly the BBC) and Pizza places (Za's, Boombazz). Also thought of Flabby's. Other suggestions?
Thinks the frosty mug is the low point in American history.

You should find out if the Fish House is opened on Mondays...It's the best fried shrimp in the city, although ironically I don't care for the fish. Also, I nursed the finest hangover with the fish sandwich at...of all places....Spring street today. It was, I swear, one of the tastiest and lightest breadings I've come accross in forever. However, comma, don't go near the patti melt.

Papalinos is a great spot for Amazing pizza, casual atmosphere and low prices. Especially if its nice out and you can sit on the patio.
My go-to "home away from home" place is dundee tavern. It's totally a neighborhood spot and the food is
just as it should be... I crave it on weekday nights when I get off work and don't want to cook at home. Plus on Monday nights they have cheap and surprisingly good margaritas :)

The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

It's located in the shopping center next to the generic BW3's. I don't think they are called Bootleg, but may be mistaken.

Jucy's or Texican's out toward Crestwood on 146 are both great and very casual.

Also, Wick's, Clifton's, Boombozz and Papalino's are all great.

Boombozz in Westport for dinner and a walk over to the Comfy Cow would make a great b-day experience.

Recently, I've been partial to Smoketown USA on Logan Street. Love their slaw and greens.

He also has a fried fish sandwich that's killer.

No, Bootleg is on out Bardstown past the Snyder on the right. It's one of the few places in Louisville where you can get Western Kentucky mutton, and other good things. Worth checking out.

Fish House is the name. I passed it on the way home, but saw someone had already mentioned it. :)

Please come to Brownings. We have great BBQ sandwich, as well as lots of other choices. If you are thinking pizza, Papalinos or Perfecto Pizza in Plainview are great choices.
Have a great celebration! :D

Bootleg BBQ is a family favorite at my house - LOVE the potato salad and beans. You have to order their "sticky smoked wings" about three hours in advance so plan ahead and try them if you haven't already.

It's late to post this but I gotta' put in my vote for Texican in Crestwood on 146. Be aware the place is small but I loved the BBQ ribs there and the prices were extremely reasonable.
