Our first Zaxby's

by Chris M » Thu May 06, 2010 11:26 am

I've never eaten at one, and it doesn't really look like much to get excited about, but this morning I noticed a sign on Blankenbaker just north of 64 for a new Zaxby's going up. It's right across from the Jesus Fair and Exposition Center.

For those not familiar it's a casual chicken place. Wings, sandwiches and misc. other fried items.

They are still clearing the land, so it's probably a little ways off.

I work right by, so I'm sure I'll give it a try when it opens up.

We have one in Shelbyville. I really like the grilled house salad, and have never eaten anything else. If you want a big salad that's fairly cheap, it's a great quick place to go.

We have one here in Etown. It is NOT as good as the ones in Bowling Green where I went to WKU.

Was in Auburn, AL a few months ago. There is about one Zaxby's for every six citizens in that city.

Not that healthiest place in the world.

My husband works out that way and says this is bad news...LOL.

Being from East TN, I love Zaxby's and was so thrilled when they opened one in Jeff. If you're looking to try it before they finish that one, it's in front of Meijer at Allison Lane and 62.

Meh. Not that big of a deal to me.
Curiosity got the best of me on this one as I've heard it was good. We hit the one in Shelbyville on the way back from Keeneland. Having never been, I was expecting something like Popeye's or Church's chicken. Instead, it is a Chic Fil A clone and I felt it was below average at best. I did like the Zaxby's sauce though.

I've heard about their sauce. Is it like magic?

It is the biggest church I've ever seen. It looks like a freakin' amusement park. That's my guess on how it got its name. I'm guessing it can probably seat 10,000 with ease.

Interesting...I don't really think Zaxby's is anything like Chick-fil-a, other than the fact that they both serve chicken. The menu and food are both very different, IMO.

It's also a "televangelism" kind of place with stadium seating and big-screen TVs so the crowds way up in the thin-air seats can see the "Christian MTV" musical numbers that, along with a pulpit-pounding sermon, make up much of the service. A lot of people seem to love it, but it leaves me feeling more like I'd been at a show than a church service. It's a different kind of huge than Westminster Abbey or the National Cathedral is huge. ;)

Ohhhhhhhh, I get it now. I thought you guys were talking about the real Six Flags <duh> :? ...Kinda sorta made me wonder if Six Flags had a bunch of "door knockers" hanging out at the gate or something. Local names...That's something I've still got to get down with...I thought once I figured out where the "Old Sears Building" was I pretty much had it licked. Guess not.

Anyway...yeah, I've seen that church (so have astronauts in space). That is one big sonvabitch.
