Wow. Happy birthday!

So, you share a birthday with Vladimir Lenin. Coincidence?

Thanks, guys!

In addition to Lenin, who was much more of a leftie than me, today's birthdays include Jack Nicholson, Glen Campbell, Yehudi Menuhin and Eddie Albert, to name a few.

If I had waited until tomorrow I could have shared with William Shakespeare! Also Max Planck and Michael Moore. Yesterday offered Queen Elizabeth II, Catherine the Great of Russia, Charlotte Bronte and John Muir. April 20's birthdays included <gulp> Adolf Hitler.

In my warped mind I picture Jack Nicholson playing his rendition of Rhinestone Cowboy on the violin while waiting for Mister Haney to deliver his tractor.

Meanwhile, Lisa says "happy birthday, dahling, this has been a Screen Gems Presentation."

Or as good ol' Vlad would say: С Днем Рождения, старый пердеть

I raise my glass to you, sir.

In case everyone was wondering what a food-and-wine writer and critic who dines out and opens interesting wines for WORK does to celebrate a special day: Relax and take it easy. Sear a little locavore rib eye, steam some garden spinach, bake a potato and look for something a interesting in the red-wine department. Ahhhh.

(The "something interesting" proved to be Felsina 1995 "Berardenga" Chianti Classico Riserva. Holding up quite nicely in passive storage here since it hit the market, a bit of to-be-expected volatile acidity (a Sherry note) for an Italian red, but lots of fruit, fennel and tart, food-friendly acidity. Very nice with the steak. I'll write up a better WTN at some point.)

And Happy Anniversary 2 my mom and step dad who signed their nuptials 22 yrs ago today on this 22nd of April Earth Day in the Windy City of Chi Town! That almost 2 many 2 count, but they swear they'll see 22 more and my momma would love 2 celebrate with a Bells 2 hearted, which I think is 2 cool, but the step dad may have an itch for 2 buck chuck, 2 soon 2 tell. Maybe they'll split the difference and go for a double deuce. Mom did prep the dining table with 2 pots of 2lips, though. so sweet.

Also very happily - Happy Birthday, Food Dad! You rule! I like you even better than Jack Nick!
