Yum! to pay $13.5 million to name downtown arena

Louisville’s downtown arena will be called the KFC Yum! Center.

Yum! Brands, which once said it wasn’t interested in the naming rights, has agreed to a $13.5 million, 10-year contract to be the building’s main sponsor, the company and the Louisville Arena Authority announced Monday.

Maybe KFC will add fried cardinal to its menu. That would be a true stadium treat.

No, no, no, it should be known as Double Down Dome.

What I find weird is how the corporate name always seems to stick, especially on existing stadiums. The one that comes to mind is when Comisky Park in Chicago became U.S. Cellular Field. A mouthful to say, if you ask me. On the other hand, Wrigley Field has been known by its corporate name since 1926.

Yum and the arena. I like it. Somehow it just seems to fit. How? Let's not go there ... 8)

Kind of hard to take university and city developed "healthy-lifestyle" agendas seriously when they go off and name the arena after KFC/YUM!.

Bear in mind that the notorious Double Down would meet Dr. Atkins' scrutiny.

The view of the arena from the west is the profile of a fish. Yum! should somehow incorporate Long John Silvers into the name.

Nope, that's not Atkins. You can have all the fried you want as long as you don't have any carbs. Personally I don't think Atkins is a good idea, and this is a good example as to why.

I can understand the frustration with this choice but frankly who else did people think was going to put their name on the arena ? I mean someone had to.do it and in this economy I didn't see a lot of likely candidates lining up.
