Are we having fun yet?

by Robin Garr » Fri Mar 02, 2007 11:01 am

As posted on the old forum:

As we approach 100 registered members on the new forum (already!), and hearing virtually no complaints other than the IT Nanny Filter issue - which may be resolved with the alternate URL - I'm thinking that we might be in a position to pack 'em up and herd 'em over pretty soon.

Accordingly, if you haven't yet signed on to the new forum and are viewing this as a "guest," please hit "Register" and sign on.

And if you still feel you have strong reasons to wish we wouldn't change, please speak up with them so your arguments can be heard, although at this point it seems like a near unanimous majority is speaking loud and clear.

<---------- Having fun.

wooo.

I put vegetables in your desserts, white chocolate with your fish and other nonsense stuff that you think shouldn't make sense, but coax the nonsense into something that makes complete sense in your mouth. Just open your mind, mouth and eat.

Woohoo! The sneaky method worked! I'm "in like Flynn" and inspired to contribute more instead of just lurking.

Hooray! Thanks for letting us know, Kara! I hope this workaround will solve the problem for the other people who work for tyrannical employers, too. ;)

Meanwhile, "Look for ... the union label ... "

Congrats Robin -- you have over 100 members in just a couple of days!! It is fun seeing everyone trying the new format and seeing personalities come out via the avatars and other bells and whistles!

Thanks again ... this will be fun!

This is just lovely on my new Blackberry 8700. Full functionality as well. Cool.

Give me the weekend, Charles, and I'll try to set up an alternate "style" that you can switch to for the Blackberry, and you'll love it even more - less paging down because the page format is much simpler.

Almost 20 years later, moving on ...

by Robin Garr » Mon Oct 12, 2026 3:32 pm

Hey, everyone! I'm resurrecting this ancient thread for a public service announcement: After nearly 20 years on this platform, this iteration of the forum is clattering toward its close. You've probably noticed that the old software has become buggy and often unavailable, and sadly, because the underlying platform is so ancient, it's not easy to fix. Add in that closing my relationship with LEO Weekly a while back has significantly diminished my review postings. Traffic here, too, has been light, at least in the posting department.

So, in coming weeks I'll be shutting down the forum and the associated restaurant review site.

We're not going away completely, though, and if you have enjoyed this community, you're welcome to come along on the next steps:

• I've already moved the review site along with about five years of more recent reviews to Substack https://hotbytes.substack.com. You're welcome to follow us over there, and wile paid subscriptions are welcome, free access is also available, and probably a sensible option until I start posting more again.

• For a continued forum-like space, Substack Chat offers a forum-like experience. Again, I'd be delighted to have you come over, post a comment or a local-eats experience, and we'll see how it goes.

Anyway, thanks to you all for your contributions here. It's been a good ride, and if we've got the energy for it, it doesn't have to be over yet. :)

Robin

Well, it's open and available (and thanks for your post!)

It's a very different platform from this old PhpBB forum, but pretty easy to use with a Substack subscription. Substack app is optional but can be convenient.
