Help for vegans

by Carla G » Sat Jun 14, 2025 8:00 am

To the point-
I have family members moving back to Louisville. They are vegans. They live in the Fern Creek area. What are their options that are not all the way downtown? (They know about Queen of Sheba and love it but the rest of us may be getting tired of it. )
Thanks in advance.

Carla, the best bet for vegetarian/vegan diners around the metro has to be Indian! There are tons of Indian eateries around, including some as close to Fern Creek as the zone around Hurstbourne and Taylorsville Road.

India has a very large population of Buddhists and some Hindus who don't eat meat, so vegetarian options are easy. For vegans, just watch out for dishes with paneer (cheese) and occasional dishes that use milk or cream, like Dal Makhani (a very rich lentil dish with cream added) or kheer (aromatic rice pudding with milk or cream).

Dakshin in Buechel is "temporarily closed" but their website has completely vanished.

We now have Tandoori Wings (Indian food) in Fern Creek where Beef O'Brady's used to be. Google reviews are raving.

I second that vote for Tandoori Wings ! I was there this past weekend. It was a toss up between Little India and Tandoori Wings. I chose Tandoori Wings because they had been around several months longer and had outstanding reviews. Not to mention I like their menu better and their prices were a little more reasonable. We had the Spicy Chicken Wings, the Chicken Tikka Missala (spicy), Chicken Bryanni, and the Garlic Naan. Everything was outstanding ! I had gotten this as a to go order, but had my wife been there I think we just would have it eaten in the dining area. The atmosphere is very inviting, and does not resemble the sports bar that had been there previously. I gave them 5 stars on Google. This is now my go to Indian since it is less then 10 minutes from my house in JTown.
