New Restaurant space available in Highlands

by Deb Hall » Fri Mar 24, 2017 12:46 pm

The Applebees at Bardstown Road and Trevilian just closed. Who's looking for a space in a great location? I'd love to see a local go in here. :-)

That's Just past Evil Robin!!

I think that's the first Applebee I've ever seen close when they worked building a new one next door to replace it! I guess it's just a good example of what is happening in the "Chain" restaurant world. We haven't been to one in a long time but unless my memory is failing me their food used to be decent compared to many of the other restaurants of the same caliber. The only thing that ever bothered me was that they were to much of a bar, no matter where you are sitting you're always within a stones throw the bar area.

Applebee's. There are very few restaurants that I won't visit at least once every 5-10 years even in moments of slight desperation. Applebee's is one of those.

I think the best word I can use to describe their food is pedestrian. A less polite word would be boring. The last time we ate at the one in Fern Creek we walked out wondering whether we had actually eaten food. I don't think they use a commissary system, but it seemed like it.

It wasn't awful/disgusting/raw or what have you. It was just nothing. It didn't register.

Looks like the local franchises have changed hands several times. That could be a problem.

Was it an Applebee's that just closed next to O'Charlie's on Hurstbourne next to the Courtesy (née Swope) auto mall?

To any potential prospects, given its proximity, if you open anything there that has good food, good beer and/or bourbon, and is not another Applebees, a vast majority of your overhead will probably be covered from my pocket. :D
